A type of blood cell produced in the bone marrow and found in the blood. Red blood cells contain a protein called hemoglobin, which leads oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body. Checking the number of red blood cells in a blood is usually performed in order to diagnose physiological conditions such as anemia, dehydration, malnutrition, leukemia, and more. It is also called erythrocyte.
