In a clinical trial, it is the group that does not accept the new treatment being studied, but the standard treatment at the time. This group is compared to the group receiving the new treatment to see if the new treatment is more effective than the standard treatment. The control group can receive a placebo. It is important to note that not every clinical trial has a control group
