Menopause is a normal condition that all women experience as they age. It is divided into three stages: (i) Perimenopause – occurs several years before the Menopause and begins when the ovaries gradually produce less estrogen. In the last two years of this process, when estrogen levels are low, symptoms of hot flashes and night sweats begin. (ii) Menopause – the point at which the ovaries stop releasing eggs and menstruation ends. (iii) Post-menopause – the period after menopause and symptoms of premenopause began to ease. This is a consideration when making a therapeutic decision in women with cancer.
