Jaundice

Jaundice is a disease in which yellow color appears in the eyes and skin. Due to a disease or infection, a substance called Bilirubin remains in the bloodstream and colors the skin and eyes. There are several types of jaundice, for example:

Neonatal jaundice – yellowish discoloration of the white part of the eyes and skin in a newborn

Adult Jaundice caused by:

  • Viruses, including Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and C, Epstein-Barr virus
  • Common drugs
  • Excessive alcohol consumption
  • Autoimmune and/or metabolic disorders
