A test in which the number of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets in the blood is counted. The amount of hemoglobin (a protein in a red blood cell that binds oxygen) and the hematocrit (the volume of red blood cells relative to the total volume of the blood sample, measured as a percentage) is also measured.
