A surgical procedure in which organs and tissues are examined in the mediastinum. Mediastenum is the area between the two lungs that contains the heart, large blood vessels, trachea, esophagus, and lymph nodes. This procedure is usually done to get a tissue sample from the lymph nodes on the right side of the chest.
